Antique Carved Oak Savonarola Chair with Griffin Motifs
Large heavily carved oak savonarola chair circa late 19th century. The striking carved backrest features two mirrored griffins surrounded with foliate carvings. Two carved griffin heads are positioned on either side of the backrest. The chair also features scrolled armrests, quarter sawn grain and carved claw feet. The chair is quite substantial in size and definitely draws the eye!
The finish is in excellent condition with almost no imperfections. Some minor imperfections and dents in the wood are present, however, they are few to none. Some of the embellishment on the front of the chair is missing/chipped away (see photo). There also appears to be some missing wood from one of the carved griffin motifs (see photo). Considering the age of this piece, it is in great condition.
