Antique Tallboy Dresser with Brass Decor Overlay

$1,125.00
Sold Out

Description:

Originally manufactured by Sligh Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this beautiful tallboy dresser is definitely a head-turner. After a bit of research I was able to date the dresser circa 1920's based on the design of the trademark plaque located in the top drawer. Before shutting its doors in 1932, Sligh Furniture Co. was credited with being “largest manufacturer of furniture exclusively for the bedroom in the world" during the 1920's.

This particular tallboy dresser appears to have French-Louis XVI inspired designs which display amazing grain patterns from several types of wood. Wood inlay can be seen spanning across all 5 solid wood drawers as well as the support separating the top book-matched drawer. The interior of each drawer features well preserved quarter sawn oak bottoms and solid oak sliders. Another feature of this dresser is the solid brass hardware and cast brass overlay decor. Each piece original to the dresser. However, the original brass overlay located on the right leg was missing when we acquired the dresser so it has been replicated to match the existing one on the left leg.

The original shellac finish was restored on all 5 drawer fronts and the two sides before finishing with a clear lacquer finish to preserve the original patina and add further protection. The brass overlays were also coated with a clear lacquer to prevent tarnishing.

Dimensions:

36" Width
19" Depth
53" Height
